Introducion

Booking a doctor's appointment has always been a hassle - long queues, waiting times, and busy schedules make it a challenge.

The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted healthcare access for vulnerable groups like cancer patients, pregnant women, and those on dialysis. With 73% using mobile phones daily and 23% owning PCs or laptops (Forrester Research, 2021), a mobile app is proposed to streamline appointment booking, reduce communication gaps, and expedite medical results delivery. This case study explores its development to improve healthcare accessibility during crises.

Process

In crafting Health.co, I focused on a structured and iterative design process, centered on brainstorming, UX research, and iterative design. This approach ensured that user needs were at the forefront, resulting in a more user-friendly experience.

I've conducted a thorough analysis of competitor apps to identify areas where Health.co can excel and address existing pain points. By pinpointing these shortcomings, I've developed a clear strategy to design an app that not only meets but exceeds user expectations in the market.

With the help insights and research, I have done. I got some major pain points of users and their problems, what actually frustrate them and where we lacks when they actually needs assistance.

  • Doctor Listings with Direct Contact: Provide detailed doctor profiles with a way for patients to contact them directly.
  • Easy Appointment Booking: Allow patients to book appointments directly based on real-time availability.
  • Clear Slot Visibility: Show available time slots and appointment options on one platform.
Userflows & Wireframes

I create high-fidelity wireframes focusing on doctor profiles, real-time booking, and clear slot visibility. Afterward, I test these wireframes with real users, observe their interactions, gather feedback, and refine the design based on their insights.

Usability Testing

I tested the app’s usability with 5 participants. Overall, the feedback was positive, with most finding it easy to book an appointment.

Tasks:

  • Create a new account.
  • Book an appointment
  • Cancel an appointment

Insights:

  • 3 out of 5 participants suggested combining the height, weight, gender, and date of birth fields into a single screen instead of having them on three separate screens.
  • All participants successfully booked an appointment with ease.
  • 4 out of 5 found the appointment cancellation process very straightforward.
Design & Prototypes

After incorporating feedback from usability tests, I updated the wireframes into high-fidelity designs. This involved refining visual aesthetics, adding animations, and integrating micro-interactions to elevate the overall user experience.

Conclusion and Key-points

Previously, I worked as a UI designer on various projects, but this was my first UX case study, which presented new challenges. The core objective of UX design is to understand and address real-world problems. Moving forward, I aim to enhance my skills in UX design. Specifically, the app requires two major UX improvements:

  • Streamlining the "Create New Account" Process: Simplify and reduce the number of screens.
  • Integrating an Easy Payment Method: Implement a user-friendly payment feature for direct appointment fee payments.

I recognize the need to expand my expertise in these areas to improve future projects.
